In the role of professional development lead, you will primarily be responsible for supporting teachers in their professional development and growth, under the direction of the Head of Education. You will receive ongoing training and mentoring in this role.

Key responsibilities
The precise areas of responsibility for this post will be agreed based around your skills and the needs of the schools, but it is anticipated that you will be able to:

  • Embed a culture of professional development in all Acorn Education schools
  • Lead the upskilling of teacher skills both in terms of instructional rigour, classroom management, and data drive instruction through a goal-oriented professional development programme
  • Contribute to the strategic direction of teacher development across the schools with the senior management team
  • Facilitate the improvement of academic results for learners through the creation of a goal-oriented professional development programme that is aligned to the specific challenges and growth areas for allocated teachers and schools
  • Develop differentiated professional development programmes to address specific requirements, for example: a newly qualified teacher development programme
  • Keep abreast with leading practices of excellence within the education field
  • Monitor and evaluate Acorn Education’s teacher support and training programmes and recommend improvements where applicable
  • Contribute to the development of a strong positive school culture

Essential qualification and experience criteria

  • Must have a teaching qualification and an honours degree would be beneficial
  • Minimum 5 years Senior Management experience in a Primary or a High School
  • Must have experience in developing and presenting professional development workshops at school level
  • Strong background in languages would be beneficial
  • Qualification as a registered moderator or facilitator beneficial
  • Must be a South African national or possess a permanent resident permit
  • Must be fluent in both English and Afrikaans
  • Must have own transport
